Connect SharePoint

If your documents already live in SharePoint, you can connect a collection to them directly instead of downloading files and uploading them again. You choose exactly which files to bring in, and refresh them whenever you need to.

Before you start

SharePoint is set up once for the whole workspace by a Tenant Admin, under Tenant Settings → Integrations → Connectors. Until that’s done, the SharePoint option won’t be available on your collections. See Tenant settings.

Pick the files you want

Open the collection, choose Add Source, and pick SharePoint.

  1. Paste a URL — either a SharePoint folder, or an organization-level drive.
  2. Pick your files from the list. Chat shows you what’s there, so you choose the specific documents you want rather than taking everything.
  3. Review your selection, shown at the bottom of the dialog, then click Connect & Start Sync.

Up to 5 documents per collection — the same collection limit that applies to uploads. Supported types are PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, and TXT; anything else appears greyed out in the picker and can’t be selected.

Connecting and removing a connector is limited to the collection’s Owner and Admins.

Watching a sync

Files that are actively syncing show a sync icon, and you’ll get a notification when a sync starts and another when it finishes. Small files can go through quickly enough that the icon is easy to miss — the completion notification is the reliable signal.

Keeping documents up to date

Syncing is manual. Chat doesn’t watch SharePoint for changes, and the files stay managed on the SharePoint side. When a document has been edited there, run a sync to pull the current version in. Anyone with Member access or above on the collection can run one.

Remove the connection

Removing the connector disconnects the collection from SharePoint. It doesn’t touch anything in SharePoint itself. Only the collection’s Owner and Admins can remove it.
